**This position can be fully remote or hybrid near Mitacs offices in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa or Calgary**
Reporting to the Vice President, Research, this role is responsible for managing the implementation and administration of the Mitacs Research Security Plan. The candidate should have sound knowledge of academic-industry research partnerships and familiarity with the topic of intellectual property, along with a self-directed interest in becoming a Mitacs subject matter expert in the emerging field of research security.
Responsibilities:
- Managing the implementation of the Mitacs Research Security Plan
- Collaborating across departments to maintain up-to-date internal resources and external content pertaining to research security
- Curating information to inform development and delivery of research security training resources to teams across Mitacs
- Liaising with external research security counterparts as required
- Managing the research security assessment of Mitacs applications, including the screening of partner organizations, identification of potential research security risks, and the assessment of intellectual property agreements from the perspective of economic and national security implications and the expected benefits to Canada
- Working alongside Research Review Officers and coordinating with the Director, Research to arrive at funding recommendations or decisions on Mitacs applications involving potentially higher research security risks
- Advising the Vice President, Research on updates to research security processes and procedures as needed
- Supporting the Vice President, Research with the periodical review of the Mitacs Research Security Plan
- Potential for managing staff in the future if it becomes necessary to create additional positions to support research security at Mitacs
Skills and qualifications:
- Over 5 years of relevant experience
- Self-directed, with an interest in continually learning and expanding their knowledge of intellectual property, patenting, and other relevant topics
- Proactive, and capable of collaborating with Research team colleagues including the Director, Research to develop workflows in cases where they are not yet fully established
- Interest in developing into a Mitacs subject matter expert on research security
- Strong communication skills
- Highly collaborative and capable of working effectively with diverse teams
- Excellent judgment
- Master’s degree required, PhD preferred
- Experience with implementing or managing peer review processes is an asset
- Fluency in French is an asset
